February Burda Skirt

I am planning to make a version of this skirt in a fairly heavy black ponte. Its pretty much the only thing I liked in February's Burda Style Magazine.
I don't really like that long separating back zipper. Think I could do an elastic waist or a shorter invisible zipper?

  1. If there is a zipper all the way down, you can do a 9" zipper and a seam below. I wouldn't do an elastic waist though due to the style of the skirt. Just me.

  2. Really cute! I think you can just do a standard zipper with a seam below it, however, it looks pretty narrow and you may want to add a kick pleat at the skirt bottom.
    Love your outfits so far!

  4. When I eventually get my Feb Burda, I want to make this too. I am planning to use an invisible zip down to about 20cm, and add an inverted kick pleat at the bottom of the back centre seam.

  6. I think the back would look neat without being split down the middle - I'd try a zipper on the side! It should be fun to make - anxious to see it!

  7. I agree with Ann about the elastic waistline. I'm sure you will work it out and get the perfect skirt for you!

  9. That will be fabulous for your SWAP. I am going to put in a back zipper on mine and may try it in a stretch woven (making one size larger than normal) I like the idea of a split at the back or a kick pleat. Though it should also be possible to straighten the skirt sides a bit so its got more room I think. Fiddly, but possible.

  10. This week I saw a dress with the separating zip that went to the hem. It actually looked very clever. The zip was opened from the hem so that gave the wearer room to walk while keeping the dress shapely.
