Turquoise embellished top

This is my TNT turtleneck top pattern which I've made any times. I thought it would be ideal for the Mini Wardrobe, but wanted to add a twist to the version I normally make. Instead of the usual scoop front neckline I altered it to a V neckline and redrafted the collar to cross over.

I also applied interfacing in a V shape and did some freeform tonal hand embellishment with yarn, thread, ribbon, beads and buttons.

I really enjoyed the freedom of the thread and bead work as a contrast to the precision needed for pattern matching and welt pockets

Embellishment inspiration

I was browsing in Wallis today and came across this top which I really liked. Its a simple viscose jersey top in black with a ruched front, however what makes it special is the embellishment. This has been applied on a stiffened facing piece which is on the outside, stitched on by machine at the neckline, but by hand lower down.

I really like this - maybe almost enough to buy it (its £35 for anyone who is interested) - but definitely enough to try to be inspired by the method for the 2010 SWAP. One of the rules is to have among the collection,
"1 will feature embroidery, beads or sashiko"
