I recently had the chance to spend some time with a sewing buddy and picked up some goodies for the sewing room.
As always when visiting a sewing friend, we went into her sewing room and she shared with me some things she wouldn't be using.
Adventures in garment construction. (Plus random thoughts, photos of interesting places and stuff I've made!)

Here are some recent fabric purchases
From Boyes in Whitby
Left - navy cotton with a Kingfisher and weeping willow. I loved this so much I went back and bought a second length - I have 2 x 3 metres, but its only narrow.
Centre - silver grey stretch velvet to make a shrug for a friend - 1m but quite wide
Right - navy cotton with red and white anchors. Only 1m and narrow, home dec.
Also a set of bag feet as I want to play a bit with bag making.
A couple of weeks earlier I'd ordered some 2m and 4 m bundles from T9 fabrics
I had better get sewing!
My lovely sewing friend has been in our area for a few days and yesterday (31 July 2024) we went to
Left - 1.5 metres of pink stretch lace with a paisley design - for a top (can't find on website)
Centre - 2 metres of teal blue viscose floral print - for a blouse - link here
Right - 2 metres of navy viscose floral - for summer trousers (can't find on website)
Also some lightweight interfacing (no photo)
It'll be interesting to see how long these marinade for before appearing back here as clothing!
I'm adding some photos of recent fabric purchases so you can enjoy them, but also so I can search for them later and find out when I bought them!
First up is one from a little while back (21st May). It's 1.5metres of cotton batik from Boyes in Arnold, Nottingham (fairly local to me). I'm planning to make a simple summer shirt from this and will probably use emerald green thread.
After I'd donated a bagful of clothes and household items at one local charity shop I walked on to the next one where I found they had loads of lovely new fabric remnants.
So I bought quite a few of them.
6 pieces of quilting cotton, 3 lengths of rayon woven, 1 length of cotton woven and 2 bits of jersey.
It has absolutely made my day!
We recently came back from a lovely 2 weeks in Funchal, Madeira, where we enjoyed watching the Carnival and going on walks as well as eating, drinking and of course a bit of shopping for fabrics and haberdashery.
