Fabric Shopping

I've been fabric shopping, thought I'd share here what I bought, hopefully fun for you but also helpful for me later when I sew it up.

Rainbow Fabrics ran a pop up shop in a hotel near the railway station in Nottingham. So I went along and bought 2 metres of pinky burgundy stretch denim and 3 metres of viscose print fabric.

I am planning to make the pink denim into a denim jacket.

The printed viscose will become trousers/culottes and a shirt which can be worn together or as separates.

They packed it up in a nice reusable tote bag.

I had a really fun time.

I then walked from the train station area, along the canal through the new pedestrian area (where Broadmarsh shopping centre previously was located) up into the main shopping area to pick up toiletries and home items and also visit the two fabric shops in the Lower Parliament Street area.

These are Creative Craft Corner in Queen Street (I often go there but didn't buy anything this time).

And the new Boyes at 20 Lower Parliament Street.
In Boyes I bought 2 metres of table covering fabric in sage green in a print called 'Honesty Leaf' for the kitchen. I've already cut it to fit the table, but have a bit left over which will become a bag.

I also purchased 2 metres of sage green knit fabric - 70% viscose 30% acrylic for a top for me.

Earlier in the week my latest Pound Fabrics order had arrived, so I'll record that here too, and no more fabric shopping for a while now :-)

Far Left 3 metres of Plain Navy stretch cotton for hiking trousers
Second left 3 metres of Elephant Family Polycotton in green for a shirt for me.
Second from right 2 metres of black viscose poplin for summer trousers
And finally far right 2 metres of navy viscose poplin for summer trousers

(I've previously made summer trousers from the mid blue and olive viscose poplin so wanted to have some more plains to go with various summer tops.)

And the elephants, well that's just because I love elephants!

I also got some thread a new sewing gauge.

Shopping not sewing

Here are some recent fabric purchases

From Boyes in Whitby

Left - navy cotton with a Kingfisher and weeping willow. I loved this so much I went back and bought a second length - I have 2 x 3 metres, but its only narrow.

Centre - silver grey stretch velvet to make a shrug for a friend - 1m but quite wide

Right - navy cotton with red and white anchors. Only 1m and narrow, home dec.

Also a set of bag feet as I want to play a bit with bag making.

A couple of weeks earlier I'd ordered some 2m and 4 m bundles from T9 fabrics

I had better get sewing!

Sewing Purchases

I'm adding some photos of recent fabric purchases so you can enjoy them, but also so I can search for them later and find out when I bought them!

First up is one from a little while back (21st May). It's 1.5metres of cotton batik from Boyes in Arnold, Nottingham (fairly local to me). I'm planning to make a simple summer shirt from this and will probably use emerald green thread.

The next purchase was from the fabric and haby sections of the Singer Sewing Shop in Whitley Bay on 25th June 2024.

A tracing wheel, some machine oil, 5 spools of Chocolate brown Moon thread (from my upcoming Autumn collection!). Also 2 metres of polycotton with a strawberry print, for a travel shirt and 3 metres of navy blue polycotton to make some walking trousers (and maybe some shorts).

Then I managed to pop in Boyes when I was briefly in York on 29th June. There I picked up some more batik fabric. This time in a muted purple. It's the end of the roll, just over 1.3 metres with a yellow mark on it. I bought this to go with another fabric (which I didn't have with me), but I don't think it does really (sigh).

The last purchase was when I went to Boyes in Whitby on 1st July.
There I bought 2 metres of a fun cotton poplin printed with colourful sailing boats on a pink background. A matching spool of pink thread and a loop turner.
The fabric is for a summer/travel shirt.

Earlier I said I'd bought the purple batik to go with another fabric, well see what you think?
The peacock fabric came from Auntie Joy's stash, but I only have 1 metre of it, not enough for a shirt. So bought extra to augment it.

Here's the peacock fabric with other batik fabrics, but none seem quite right. Happily the top two go quite well together so if I need some little extra for the batik shirt I could use that.

That's all for now. I hope to be back with something new to show you soon!

Updated to add a few photos of the peacock fabric with plains.
Medium blues

Turquoises

More blues

Greens

Purples

This seems to work the best colour wise, but its a poly-cotton and the peacock print is cotton.

Thoughts?
