Cream and Blue summer shirt

This fabric was a funny shaped remnant from Auntie Joy. It is a cotton lawn.

I used some craft buttons in a similar shade, shape and size as the flowers.

The pattern is Simplicity 9200 View C with the sleeve shortened to elbow length and straightened out (as I like that silhouette on shorter sleeves)

Classic denim dress from a blouse pattern

I had a great time making this project. It's a denim dress made from a dark denim with no stretch. It had languished in my stash because I prefer stretch jeans.

I used Butterick Misses' Shirt 5665 I extended the tunic length of the pattern by 16 inches (40cm) to get a midi length dress (flaring out slightly). I also added more buttons/buttonholes, a tie belt and patch pockets with buttoned flaps.

I had a lot of fun with this project. I got out my backup machine and threaded it up with some contrast thread for the topstitching and in my button stash I had 6 cards of 3 (18 buttons) which were perfect for the project. 2 for the pockets, 2 for the cuffs, 13 down the front and a spare sewn to the seam allowance. As they are shank buttons I had a lovely evening sewing them on by hand whilst watching TV.

Kinder Cardigans with buttons

Using the leftover fabric from the joggers, I managed to cut out two cardigans.

The pattern is The Kinder Cardigan from Wendy Ward's Book "A Beginner’s Guide To Sewing With Knitted Fabrics"

I interfaced the lower section of the front bands and added buttons and buttonholes. I also made the cuffs a little smaller and ran a slight gathering stitch round the bottom of the sleeves to help ease them onto the cuffs.

With the buttons and the tighter cuffs I hope these versions will be a little cosier to wear.

We can add the brown cardigan into the Paisley SWAP.
1 jacket, 1 fleece, 1 cardigan, 1 shirt, 8 knit tops, 1 pair jeans, 1 pair joggers, 1 skirt.

The animal print pieces could be worn with the plain items, but not with the paisley (IMO).

Fabric sewn so far in 2025 - 11m, fabric purchased zero!

  • 3m of teal jersey
  • 2m of print/brown sweater knit
  • 3m of animal print jersey
  • 3m of brown poly knit

Black Coat Completed

 I've finished the coat!

I chose these buttons from my stash as I thought they picked out the grey tones in the fur collar.

The lining is black satin (here's the coat inside out)

The buttons, lining and fabric came from my stash. The wool fabric was leftover from an unlined jacket I made for SWAP 2009. I did need to buy shoulder pads and fray check. The sleeve heads were made with a scrap of batting leftover from my Rainbow Quilt.

The pattern is Simplicity 4003 View B lengthened by 6 inches.
