Coat Sewing

I bought Love Sewing magazine and really like the idea of sewing the coat pattern B6423 which is included with it.

In the magazine they show up made up in a solid single fabric, but also in multiple fabrics.

As it takes 3.4 or 3.6 metres of fabric (depending on which size I go for) I thought I could combine several teal fabrics from the resources centre (aka the stash) and have a nice coat.

I generally buy coats so this would be a departure for me, and hopefully a good use of some wool fabrics from my resources.

Here are some reviews I found for the coat

That coat looks so cute! I'm jealous. I sewed several really nice wool coats when I was a teenager and young adult. I've been itching to make myself a nice coat but winter only lasts about 6 week where I currently live (and not a very cold 6 weeks). By the time I find a pattern and fabric it will be spring.

This pattern is in my SWAP pile to make in a bright orange ( accent color) wool. But I am thinking my fabric may be too thick. The one featured on the pattern is made from thinner fulled or boiled wool. Very hard to find in the US. I have never seen the color block version before. That's different. Lovely pattern and I doubt it would be too difficult to sew. As Audrey mentions, using a fabric that is not too thick will probably be the key to this. If you have some fleece in stash, that might make a nice toile to check fit.
